With a lot of people starting their university courses this upcoming September/October, I thought it would be helpful to talk about my university experience with some honest thoughts because hey, it's not for everyone and you will either enjoy it or not.

So I always kind of knew I wanted to go to university, I was the first person to go to University and I initially wanted to become a nurse. This decision was something I knew I would enjoy because I love helping others, however it wasn't my first option as I was back and forth between nursing and makeup.  One advice I would give is that it's okay for you not to know what you want to do, I changed my career path and decided in my last year of University. It's not too late to change your mind as the world is your ouster.  So back to my sixth form years, once I had an idea of the direction I wanted to go into to begin with, I applied to a few Universities within my city. I looked online at the start of my sixth form years to have a look at the grades I needed to get to be accepted and the subjects they needed me to have. This helped dramatically as it helped prepare me mentally with the type of work I wanted to pursue.

Before starting my course I looked into face book groups, forums, to try and find people who were starting the same course as me as I suffered with social anxiety, so this really helped! If there is one piece of advice to tell you, it would be to make friends before you go because it makes the first day a hell of a lot easier and remember, everyone is in the same boat as you. Everyone has been there and if you too struggle with panic attacks, then I understand, so tag along with a buddy, you never know, they might be in the same position as you and feel relieved.

Before starting the course, take a look at the course structure, does it involves practical or/and theory? Then be honest with yourself, think about how you learn best because this will definitely help your enjoyment of the course. I knew that my course was 50% theory and 50% practical which was great because I could adapt what I had learnt in the classroom to my placements.

Before starting my course there was the option to live in halls or studying whilst living at home. I stayed at home because living expenses on the bursary would be a struggle for me personally and my university was pretty close which was great and saved me a lot of money. However, I found that my social experience with university was dreadful and found that living at home and suffering with serious anxiousness anyway made it harder for me to tag along to events compared to people who were already living together. BUT! If I could change my social experiences I would definitely throw myself in at the deep end and tag along with the friends on my course and get involved more because hey, life is too short right?

Now on to the academic side. Find out how academic the course is, talk to other people who have finished the course you are about to start, look on the course structure online. As I have found out, with my course in particular, it gets harder as the years progress and I studied for 3 years. Soon after starting, I found it even more difficult knowing I was about to bring a life into this world and even harder, studying at the same time! Lecturers recommend reading around the module you are taking and normally have a reading list. I recommend reading them, if not all then definitely a few because i found if i didn't have a degree in fast typing then i would definitely miss things out in note taking! When i mean fast, i mean that some lectures went so quick and they didn't want to stop at all because getting through pretty much a module in a 2 hour lecture was some hard work when you were busy trying to finish the sentence they were talking about 5 minutes ago.  I would definitely recommend printing out the lecture slides beforehand so you only have to write small notes if needed, would have saved me a lot of time and painful hands.

If you are like me and tend to leave things to the last minute then I would suggest writing a diary with set dates to tackle parts of the assignment one step at a time. Throughout the years of me studying I left quite a lot of my assignments to the last minute because I must admit, having to get up countless times throughout the night to look after my child and then proceed to be awake at 7 o'clock ready for a day of studying and 13 hour shifts was though on my mental health.  Don't stress yourself out and make it harder, by doing tasks that require your focus for some time and then having a rest, you not only will be putting more in depth material into your writing, you will also save a lot of your energy.

Also, don't forget, your lecturers are the best people to speak to if you don't understand a topic because they are the ones teaching you right? I had a personal tutor who was there for any support throughout my studies so find out the main people that you can contact because if the help is there, you might as well use it!

Lastly, if you do enjoy your course then great! But if you find your mental health is being affected then it's never too late to change your mind on what you want to do. I got my qualification but decided in the last year that my mental health was far more important. Put yourself first because it was the best thing i ever did. Explore your own mind because life is far too short to do anything we do not enjoy.

Thank you for reading and I hope this has helped you in some way! Good luck too with your studies!

I needed to tell you all about these products because with the pigmentation these have, I couldn't not do a blog post about them! I have heard so many good things about this brand because they use all natural ingredients in their products and I wanted to compare the pigmentation of natural products compared to others on the market.  Throughout my search, I was lucky enough to be sent these products to review, however all views remain honest and are my own. I have included swatches of the products to show you just how great the pigmentation is so you can see why I love these so much.

As a makeup artist, I have many products in my kit that do not use natural ingredients yet I still use them because of the pigmentation. The great thing about the Ayuryedic Kajal is that they are handmade and are certified natural which means that they have been screened and certified safe to use. The brand uses organic ghee for soothing softness, camphor for natural cooling and cleansing and organised almond oil with natural pigments. I think it's great that you can find a brand that works with natural ingredients and do not test on animals, yet have great pigmentation! It's particularly important to know the ingredients list if you have sensitive skin or suffer from breakouts, knowing these are made naturally gave me confidence to begin with.

The two colours I have from this range are Cold Black and Rich Loam, these colour are quite bold and are perfect for multiple uses.  Starting from the left I have 'Pure Black' and on the right 'Rich Loam'. Both pigments can be used as either eye shadows or eyeliners which is great because it saves money on buying multiple products. Pure Black is well pigmented as shown and I can intensify the colour as needed for either a bold look or a more soft approach. Rich Loam is a bronze pigment with traces of gold glitter running throughout, it's beautiful. The pigments when applied are creamy and only needed one swatch to reveal it's true colour. The longevity of the products on the skin is quite interesting as i thought they wouldn't last as long because they included an oil, however much to my surprise these pigments last so long! I even took a swatch of me smudging the product once to show how well they keep on the skin. In honesty, I even found it quite hard to remove with just an ordinary facial wipe which shows how well this stays on the skin.

I had to result to using coconut oil to remove the product and as you can see, the original swatch was still in tact after smudging. These beauties retail for £13.90 which is great for a product you can use as an eyeliner and eye shadow! They contain no lead or parabens and use nourishing almond oil, honey and cocoa butter. Best yet, they have a range of colour to choose, these can easily be integrated into different looks for all seasons, specially the vibrant colours for festival looks. I have included a link below to where you can buy these products in the UK and a chance to check out their amazing colour range for this summer. Enjoy!

SoulTree

Thank you for reading and I hope this has inspired you to try natural products as this brand has proved that you can have pigmentation without harmful ingredients.

Could This Be The Best Drugstore Lip Liner Range?

As I was going through my makeup storage, I noticed how much makeup has changed over the years and how trends come and go. I never used to be one for lip liner but now it's one of the biggest collections I have.  A lot of trends have come back and specially with influences from those famous on social media such as Kylie Jenner. Ever since using a lip liner, it has definitely improved the performance of an ordinary lipstick as when applied all over the lip, it makes my lipstick last so much longer, kind of like a primer for your lipstick! I also find that applying a lip liner not only makes my lips look slightly bigger, but I can also change and adapt the colours that I apply, such as applying a nude lip liner over a darker shade of lipstick to lift the colour slightly. Even better, applying a lip liner alone can also be perfectly eye catching and look just as good as a lipstick.

I have put together some swatches of my favourite lip liners that work well with a lot of shades and are also affordable. I absolutely love the NYX Cosmetics lip liners because they are long lasting and the pigmentation is amazing.  Below, starting from the left I have shades Beige, Mauve, Earth Tone and Auburn.  These lip liners are priced at the amazing rate of £3.00, so affordable.

NYX Cosmetics describes these as buttery. long- wearing which resists bleeding. The formula is quite buttery and are long-lasting however the darker shades do stain the lip, but nothing a little coconut oil and a lip exfoliating scrub can't work it's magic on.  The great thing about these lip liners is that they contain Shea Butter, Jojoba Oil and Coconut Oil which are nourishing ingredients for the lips in general so it's great to have protection whilst rocking your favourite lip combo.

Thank you for reading and I hope this has given you some insight into these incredible products that definitely make your lipstick stand out.

Does The MAC Cremesheen Glass Live Up To the Hype?

I thought I would write a review of the Maccosmetics Cremesheen Glass as this has been my summer go to lip product. As the weather has headed towards the warmer side, keeping my makeup routine to a minimum is needed, one because it's too hot and two, even harder with two young children having my constant attention. If you are looking for something that is effortless but catches the eye, then keep on reading.

Maccosmetics states this Cremesheen Glass is 'A lip finish that fuses the creamy texture of a lipstick with the high shine of a gloss' and i can totally agree with that. I'm not normally a lip gloss kind of person but when i tried this formula i was converted. I normally tend to go with a matte lip on a daily basis but sometimes find something is missing. The description states it is non-sticky however, it is slightly tacky but not too intense where it feels uncomfortable like a normal lip gloss. The image below shows what the product looks like on it's own. It is super pigmented and can be worn on it's own or on top of a lipstick to give it that extra edge.

I have this beauty in the shade 'Over Indulgence' and found that it works perfect with the MAC lipstick 'Velvet Teddy'. The image below shows how great these two pair together.  As you can see, the glass just brings that something extra to the lipstick, adding shine which is great if you are looking for a small trick to adding volume and a plumpness look to the lips.  I have Velvet Teddy on it's own (right) and the added lip glass on the left.

The only downfall is that there is slight transfer, however this is to be expected with a gloss type product. Overall because of the finish it gives it is definitely worth it.  They retail for £18.00 GBP and available in a variety of colours. So if your looking for something different this summer or looking for a product that has the pigmentation of a lipstick but has a light weight formula, I would definitely recommend heading over to your local MAC counter and trying them out for yourself.

I thought I would follow on from my last post (my skin care routine) if you haven't checked it out already then go have a look and come back to this! As I have become more aware that i'm not getting any younger, I started to look at ways in which to keep my skin youthful, it will definitely thank you later in life.
I've put together 5 simple steps to keep our skin the best we can!

Step 1

I've been quite lucky in the sense that I don't suffer from a lot of breakouts, however, this tip saved the condition of my skin. The environment! So your probably thinking, what has this got to do with our skin? The same environment that we explore everyday can also be a factor that damages our skin. The harsh winds, sun rays, sun damage and pollution can really cause our skin vessels to battle! I therefore ensure I use a day cream that includes a SPF as it not only allows me to skip a step in the rush hour routine in the mornings but also hydrates my skin which is important to keep the elasticity. I believe if we take care of our skin, it will show in return! I suffer from redness around my nose which the wind played a huge factor in this damage as I never used to wear a day cream. I also was never thoughtful of the temperature of the water when washing my face. I used to use a temperature more warmer than what I do now and used to alternate this with extreme cold water to 'close my pores' however this burst the blood vessels around my nose. Bad idea! But it goes to show how much the environment can affect our skin!

Step 2

Following on from the environment, this is another factor which I never thought of throughout the years. As a social media influenster, my daily dose of internet includes spending a lot of time on my mobile phone. If you think of the many surfaces we touch during the day and then that's passed on to our phones and then onto the skin, you can imagine how much dirt and bacteria touches our face. I therefore ensure to keep wipes in my bag at all times and clean the front screen a few times daily. It takes literally less than 10 seconds with this step to help keep clear skin! This step also made me think of other items that touch our face, our pillows! I ensure to change my pillow case regularly and clean my makeup brushes a few times a week as bacteria are happy to sit in the hairs of our brushes ready for the next application! So if you suffer from breakouts, these steps can help limit the amount of bacteria that touches your face.

Step 3

Only until the recent years, I have only started to adopt a good skin care routine. I do hold my hands up to the fact that growing up, soap and moisturiser was pretty much the only things I used to use and oh how my dry skin suffered! Start by analysing the skin type you have, Dry? Sensitive? Oily? Combination? And start buying products that target your skin type as these products have different ingredients that compliment and help the skin type you have. The more you know about your own skin the better you are able to care for it.  I have now adopted a skin care routine that includes, makeup remover, exfoliate, cleanser, toner, moisturiser and eye cream and I can honestly say after you get into the routine of using these products and seeing the difference they make to the appearance of the skin, it will motivate you more to keep to a routine.

Step 4

Okay, ill be honest and hold my hands up to this but when I've had such a long day, I used to think baby wipes/ makeup remover wipes were just as good as my normal bedtime skin routine. Oh how wrong was I. One of the things that this did to my skin was dry it out even more and make me break out. One of the important things I realised was that with these wipes, It didn't remove as much of my makeup as I once thought. In the image below, I applied toner to a cotton pad to show how much dirt was left over on my skin using a wipe alone. Imagine the bacteria that's left on my skin for 8 hours? Bacteria + Clogged pores = perfect environment for breakouts.  So when I'm in bed and I feel too tired to do my routine I make sure it is all laid out in the bathroom along with my toothbrush so I don't have any excuse to not carry out the full routine. Looking at the image below was enough motivation for me.

Step 5

This step will help you look for products that are not only better and more gentle on the skin but it will also make you save a lot of money on buying the wrong products. I never used to be one for looking at the ingredient list on skincare products until I finally had enough of breaking the bank for products that did absolutely nothing for my skin. You'd be surprised at the ingredients that cause more harm than good and who wants to buy that? After suffering years with dry skin, I avoid anything with harsh chemicals such as alcohol. Lush are a company that have AMAZING products with all natural ingredients. One rule I go by is that if I can't say the same of a certain ingredient then do I really want that soaking into my skin? Find products that compliment your skin and improve the condition. I found that my dry skin hates tea tree but someone with oily skin with break outs may love it! Being more careful with what you put on your face will definitely thank you in the long run.

Thank you for reading and I hope these tips help you as much as they have helped me!

I thought it would be a good idea to talk about my skin care routine as it has been requested by a few people! Plus, skin care products completely take over my storage draws as I'm always experimenting with different products with different price points to see if any make a difference to my dry skin!

My skin care type is dry; it's not severe but it's enough to make a normal cleanser tighten my skin and dehydrated it quite quickly.

I have been using the Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel for six months now and I must admit I was worried about using a gel cleanser because of the tight feeling i usually have after using gel cleansers. However, because this gel cleanser is soap free, it doesn't leave my face feeling as dehydrated compared to other cleansers. This product claims to remove impurities without disturbing the skin's natural moisture balance which I can say it doesn't leave my face feeling irritated. It also claims to have Balm Mint and Lavender extracts to soothe the skin and Quillaja Saponaria to remove toxins and debris for a super clean surface. I can't say that I can smell the mint or lavender whilst using this product however I can say that it removed any residue left over from any makeup that was unable to be successfully removed.  The product can be used for all skin types which is great and is particularly aimed at those who are suffering from Acne and breakouts.

This product ranges from £10.50 for 50ml which is great to test it out and £49.00 for 500ml. This product is more on the high end, however if you do want to test it out the small size is quite affordable and a little goes a long way as it does create a lather.

I follow on with the Dermalogica Multi-active toner. This product claims to help condition the skin with moisture-binding humectants and prep the skin for moisture absorption with the help of Arnica and Cucumber extracts. You can imagine how excited I was to use this having dry skin! This toner is great at removing any excess cleanser when sprayed on to a cotton pad and used with swiping motions across the surface of my face. However I also use this as a spray throughout the day to refresh my face. This mist is light and with the use of cucumber, I can definitely say my face does not feel dry at all using this.  This product is aimed for those who suffer from skin dryness and dehydration however I feel that this can be used with any skin type.

A quick mention of this beauty here! I have been going back and forth between the Dermalogica toner and the Liz Earl Instant Boost Skin Tonic. Although on the higher end of the scale with a price point of £15.00 on the Feel Unique website, it does an amazing job of re-hydrating my skin after any cleanser used. It's honestly amazing and one of the best toners I have used. It is alcohol-free and is infused with soothing Calendula, Chamomile, Cucumber and Aloe Vera. The smell of this is refreshing too with Geranium, Lavender and Sweet orange pure essential oils, which is great all year round. I'm glad I have found a product with amazing ingredients and will last me a long time!

I am currently testing out the Avon True Nutra Effects day and night cream. As I have become older I have been investing more effort into looking after my skin and ensuring it is as hydrated as well as being protected from the sun as this can age the skin. As we get older, the amount of collagen decreases so I am investing in products that will help reserve the moisture in the skin. The day cream is great as it has a SPF 15 which allows me to skip a step in my morning routine. I tend to go for products that make it that little bit easier and quicker in the mornings so this is great and makes my skin feel hydrated. I will be doing a review on both of these products and also 5 Top Tips for clear skin coming soon!

If you didn't know, I'm a self-confessed lipstick enthusiast. This in itself can be pricey, particularly when it comes to MAC lipsticks. These lipsticks have some of the best long lasting effect and are my go to when it comes to needing something that is reliable. MAC lipsticks retail now at £16.50, which isn't cheap, specially when there are so many shades that I convince myself that I need.

My favourite go to lipstick is MAC FAUX. It has a Satin finish which is not too drying on the lips and is great for everyday wear and an amazing shade for any bride or bridesmaid, so you can imagine my excitement for when I found the perfect dupe for less than a fraction of the price.

Can you tell which one is MAC Faux?

Let me introduce to you Avon True Colour Lipstick in shade TOASTED ROSE. They look pretty identical right?! AVON (top) and MAC (bottom). With having tested out both of them on the lips, I was amazed at how similar they are, they look practically the same. The only slight difference that I can say is that the Avon lipstick has a very slight pink undertone whereas the MAC lipstick has a more brown undertone. However on the lips you can't tell the difference. As for staying power, Avon held pretty well throughout the day (about 4-5 hours which is the same staying powder for me with MAC lipstick). I found the Avon lipstick to actually be more hydrating and creamy on the lips which is great for someone who likes the look of a Matte lip but hates any formula that defines any cracks on the lips. Avon describes this as a soft matte lipstick which I totally agree to, it's my new favourite.

Now I know what you must be thinking, so what's the price? I am in complete excitement to purchase this at the amazing price of £4! Original price £7.50 but if you grab one for yourself now then you can save money! A fraction of the price compared to MAC and even more hydrating. I am now officially converted. Will you be?

Thank you for reading and would love to know if you have ever tried any of the Avon Lipsticks and what your favourite shade is?

I thought I'd spend some time writing about the one product that changed my lip condition, for life. I have always suffered from dry, dehydrated and cracked lips since the age of 14 years old. At first I put it down to the 'foundation over the lips' trend, however they still remained the same 10 years later.

I had researched into this and started to drink more water, eat more fruit and vegetables as i was convinced it was a vitamin deficiency ( this can still be the case for some people!). After changing my diet, many months of testing different lip scrubs, there was still no change. At this point, it became frustrating to even wear my favourite lipsticks with the paranoia of people noticing how dehydrated my lips were.

Browsing through my beloved beauty bay, I came across a game changer. This is the NUXE Paris Ultra Nourishing lip balm. This product contains plant extracts, anti-bacterial honey and Shea Butter which was the product my lips fell in love with. I first started out using this twice a day, morning and night and I couldn't believe it that within six days, my lips were actually normal. No more chapped lips! I now use this religiously in my skincare routine. It's quite thick in texture but it absorbs well into the lips within a short amount of time. This retails for £9.50 and has a shelf life of 6 months once opened. With the benefits this gives, i'd happily pay more! I use this price to my advantage and stock up because 10 years has been too long without this product in my life!

Thanks so much for reading! Comment below your favourite lip product to use?

As someone who is a big fan of individual lashes, I wanted to make a review of the new Eylure LASH-PRO individuals. These beauties are available at the local drugstore, I picked mine up from Superdrug, and retails for £6.95.

These lashes are one of my favourite lashes I have tried and with the price, they are a must in my makeup kit. What makes these so special? Compared to the original individual lashes, these have two and three flares for easy application. These little beauties not only make it easier to apply to the lash line but you can also customise your look and add more if you want to go for the more dramatic eye, making these very versatile.

The lash band is thin which made these a comfortable wear. I practically forgot I was even wearing them. They come with an adhesive and lash remover and for this to be included in the price, was a definite thumbs up from me! I was able to apply these with ease which is an important factor for me because with having two children, I have as much time to get ready as when a kettle boils. I am really impressed with how natural these look and I had many compliments throughout the day which is why I will keep on repurchasing. For anyone who wants a natural look and is new to individuals or lashes in general, I would totally recommend!

Comment below your most favourite eyelash brand, i'd love to hear!

How to clean your Beauty Blender in 2 easy steps

I thought I would it would be a good idea to tell you all how I clean and disinfect my Beauty Blender in 2 easy steps, I say it's easy because it only takes 5 minutes and when it comes to cleaning brushes it's not the most quickest of tasks. However, with this routine you can do this these two easy steps whilst the kettle is boiling, so let's go!

A good application of foundation or however you use your Beauty Blender is now popular using this tool. If you've purchased one of these, you'll know that they aren't the cheapest, retailing for £16.00 for the original Beauty Blender.  So looking after this tool has the same importance as looking after your brushes, even more with this because of moulding. I know what you may be thinking, how is that possible?

As its a rule of thumb to wet a Beauty Blender before the application of makeup right? however bacteria and germs will grow within this moist environment. So leaving it out after makeup even once can start this process and is one factor that can cause acne. Imagine putting a sponge of mould on your face every time you use it in the morning? It's more noticeable with the lighter colour Beauty Blenders.

There's a few brush cleansers on the market but I use Johnson's Baby Shampoo, £1! So it's affordable and very effective which is great! Firstly build a lather of shampoo into the Beauty Blender and ensure you are using warm water.

Next make sure you squeeze out all the water in preparation for the following step (you'll need a microwave for the next part).  Fill a microwaveable container with a small amount of water and pop it in for 30 seconds. As a Beauty Blender touches the face it can collect dirt particles, which will grow bacteria if left unclean, the heat of the microwave kills these germs and can prevent the growth happening in the first place by using this routine. Easy right?

The final step is to leave to cool down and squeeze any water that the sponge may that soaked up and place in an open container to dry. You can even use a egg cup or any container that allows to air to ventilate around the Beauty Blender. You now have a perfectly cleansed and sterile Beauty Blender which will provide a fresh and flawless foundation base for the next use!
